The Western Australian Government has commissioned a Ministerial Expert Committee to review and report on the electoral system for the election of the Western Australian Legislative Council.
The Proportional Representation Society has contributed the following recommendations:
- discontinue Group Voting Tickets, and adopt below-the-line voting systems similar to that used in the Australian Capital Territory and in Tasmania,
- increase the number of MLCs to 37 and the number of MLAs to 61,
- adopt three metropolitan Regions returning nine MLCs each (each Region containing fifteen Assembly Districts), and two rural regions returning five MLCs each (each Region containing eight Assembly Districts).
